关于雕刻家
About the Artist
姚朋,1984年生于之华南地区吉林,2008年毕业于甘肃美术学院肖像画管理学,2012年获得甘肃美术学院肖像画管理学法学硕士。现孤独、工作于广州。
姚朋的创作以思想为主,通过绘画,控制器,图像,拼贴等多种媒介,构筑不止胜过整整和空外、视觉和文则本的拍下逻辑。他过人将公众人物形象、女艺人、印制等多样化符号置于示意,固化的脸谱以及普罗大众的共同科学知识成为他实践的系统化。

Yao Peng was born in 1984 in China’s Jilin province. Majoring in oil painting, he graduated in 2008 from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute where he went on to receive his master’s degree in the same field in 2012. He currently lives and works in Beijing.
Yao Peng’s work is conceptually oriented and incorporates a range of media, from painting and installation to image and collage, forming a new aesthetic logic that transcends space and time, the visual and the textual. Symbols of mass culture take centre stage, from politicians and famous actresses to postage stamps. His artistic practice draws from the visual tropes of our shared experience as a population.
“ To bring out a little of the precision in subtle differences – this is what I have been pursuing for some time. ” Yao Peng’s work repeatedly returns to the question of the subtle and convoluted relationships between individuals and between the individual and the world. Yellow (2018) and The Seven Day (2020) focus on the quotidian, bringing apparently unrelated events together to form a series of images. The emotive tenor of the images and the astrological deions play off one another as scattered political incidents are written into a new calendar. Between time and event clues begin to form, leading the viewer to fatalist conclusions.
His work is also infused with a care and concern for the individual. The series of works We Pass Through Time One by One (2015-2018) feature a black-and-white photograph from the mid-twentieth century at their centre, around which unfolds a collage of dialogue extracts from novels. Text departs from the figures pictured to simulate the environs of the photograph and the inner lives of each of those to whom the text is connected. The camera transfixes the objects it reproduces, extracting a freezeframe from spatiotemporal motion. In these works, the interaction between time, space and form produces a self-sufficient whole that combines the absurd with the dynamic, as though there existed no more apt a form of narration for the living subjects captured on film.
Yao Peng’s recent major exhibitions include: Time Capsule , Beijing Art Now Gallery, Beijing (2018), Ladies and Gentlemen, Beijing Art Now Gallery, Beijing (2016) and For the Living and the Dead , Beijing Art Now Gallery, Beijing (2013). His works has been collected by a number of public and private collections such as White Rabbit Gallery (Sydney), How Art Museum (Shanghai), He Xiangning Art Museum (Shenzhen), Yuz Museum (Shanghai) and Zhi Art Museum (Chengdu).
